DRIVING DIRECTIONS
From Asheville, Knoxville, Tennessee, Kentucky an the Ohio Valley Region:Take I-40 to I-26 at Asheville and proceed East on I-26 toward Hendersonville to Exit 49A, follow US Hwy 64 to Bat Cave, turn right onto 64/74-A and go east through Lake Lure. You will drive a few miles pass the municipal golf course. Turn left onto Bill’s Creek Road at the sign for Fairfield Mountains. Go 2 miles on Bill’s Creek Road and turn left onto Buffalo Creek Road. Proceed one mile to The Welcome Center on the left hand side. (Allow one hour from Asheville).
From Hickory, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Virginia and Northeast:
Note: This route follows rural secondary roads which are not clearly marked. Take Sugar Hill Road exit (#81). Turn onto Sugar Hill Road and proceeded South and follow signs for Lake Lure. When there are red fences on both sides of the road, Sugar Hill veers to the Right at the end of the red fences and becomes Road 1001. Proceed 6.8 miles on Sugar Hill, turn right onto Cove Road. Turn right onto Bills Creek Road (#1008 – look for the small sign on the left hand side of the road). Drive 5.5 miles and turn right onto Buffalo Creek Road Dalton’s Country Store will be on your left. Proceed one mile to The Welcome Center on the left hand side. Allow 30 minutes from I-40.
From Charlotte:
Take I-85 South to the Kings Mountain exit and proceed on US Hwy 74 towards Shelby. Stay on US 74 past Shelby and Forest City. Take Exit # 167, turn right and proceed 12 miles on Hwy 9 North, until the road dead ends at Lake Lure. Turn right onto US Hwy 64/74 A, proceed 4 miles and turn left onto Bill’s Creek Road. Go 2 miles on Bill’s Creek Road and turn left onto Buffalo Creek Road. Proceed one mile to The Welcome Center on the left hand side. Allow two hours from Charlotte.
From South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and points South:
From I-26 West, take the first exit after the North Carolina Welcome Center (exit #36). Go right onto Hwy 108 East and proceed 6 miles to Hwy 9. turn left onto Hwy 9 and go 9 miles until the road dead ends at Lake Lure. Turn right onto US Hwy 64/74 SA, proceed 4 miles and turn left onto Bill’s Creek Road. Go 2 miles on Bill’s Creek Road and turn left onto Buffalo Creek Road. Proceed 1 mile to The Welcome Center on the left. Allow 25 minutes from I-26.
